Wind 6m/s E, 2 deg C, broken cloud, clearing then light showers later.
The chill easterly wind meant there wasn't much happening on that side of the island both on the sea and in the air early on. There was, however, an increase in the number of small birds caught compared to recently. Highlight of the day was watching a Greater Black-backed Gull fighting a Cormorant in the water for a fish before it, in turn, was mobbed by a Raven when on land. Nets open 05.00-18.00hrs. Ringing: Blackbird 1, Robin 1, Goldcrest 5, Chiffchaff 4, Wren 9. Total 20. Chris Wind 6m/s N, 3 deg C, sunny
An overnight frost and northerly wind meant few, if any, new birds to the island. After increasing the wind dropped through the day and turned to a southerly direction but blue skies meant the nets still shone. It was hoped that rain across the fjord and on the mainland would push some birds onto the island but this was not to be. Nets opened 05.00-19.30hrs. Ringing: Wren 1, Song Thrush 1, Robin 1, Linnet 1. Total: 4 Wind 5m/s S, 6 deg C, sunny
Nets open 05.00-17.30hrs. With most of the birds appearing to have left the island it was a quiet day ringing. However this was made up for by sightings of Osprey and Rough-legged Buzzard plus close-up views of Red-breasted Merganser. An Eider nest with four eggs was found at Speidersletta, prior to which a freshly predated Eider egg had been found. Ringing: Chiffchaff 1, Wren 2, Robin 3, Chaffinch 1, Linnet 1, Blackbird 3. Total 11 Chris Wind 8 m/s NNO, 4 deg C, sunny with the wind easing through the day.
Nets open 05.00-19.30hrs. A steady, but smallish, arrival of birds brought more Chiffchaffs flocks of Siskin and Linnet to the bird table. Per Espen Fjeld, his wife and four more came onto the island early afternoon. After he, took them on a short tour we all went up to the old lighthouse before they left. Thanks again for the coffee and cake! Days ringing: Goldcrest 2, Chiffchaff 12, Robin 4, Greenfinch 2, Greater Spotted Woodpecker 1. Total 21 Chris Hansell Kjølig morgen med +3.
