Nothing out of ordinary... During the morning, Julie was very happy to hear and see a spotted redshank along the shore. She catches and tags this particular species for the European project HABITRACK. It´s a really tricky species to catch!! So knowledge about the spotted redshank is lacking and thanks to the GPS devices deployed in France, Senegal and Finland, a lot of datas are collected. You can see the migration tracks here: https://habitrack.eu/?project=spotted-redshank&lang=en This spring, several tagged spotted redshanks bred in Scandinavia. The datas confirm that incubation and chick-rearing are the responsability of the males. The females lay their eggs in open forests and head back south much earlier. Here are the datas from a bird tagged in Senegal in February 2025, it crossed Oslo and nested somewhere near Smoldalen! Spotted redshank in winter in Africa, and a cryptic male on his nest in Finland.
