Geir Inger and Per Kristian arrived yesterday evening, because of the great weather predictions. Fog and clouds with little wind from the South... It really looked like it could be a really great morning indeed. Violaine and I had trouble to be as optimistics because we had so many days in a row with few birds now. But their enthusiasm was communicative, some bets were made and we all started the day with great hopes. Unfortunately, for some reasons ( maybe the fog started too early and wasn't dense enough when we woke up?), although we had a rather very good day compare to the last ones, the birds weren't that numerous this morning. We were all dreaming about hundreds of gransangers, hoping to escape from a rush of gjerdesmette and maybe getting one or 2 rarities, but we ended up with 40 bird in the nets through the whole day. Still, there has been more movements around the island, and our species list of the day is much better than the previous ones. On a walk to speiderslitta, Per Kristian found a great grey shrike, and got a picture. We all joined him after the round, but unfortunately, the bird flew away and we didn't get a chance to spot it. We also had a least one kestrel around (tårnfalk), a small pack of redwings(rødvingetrost), a couple of goldfinch (stillits) and a golden plover (heilo). So all in all, in the end, it has been a more interesting day and we did really enjoyed the guy's company. As for our hopes and expectations, well, tomorrow might be good... you never know!
Birds ringed today: gjerdesmett 4, jernspurv 1, rødstrupe 13, måltrost 2, gransanger 16, fuglekonge 2, bjørkefink 1, tornirisk 1.
